WhatsApp is looking into introducing a new button for resending status updates where users are mentioned in a future update. The upcoming redesigned button will be larger, feature both an icon and text, and be placed above the caption bar to make its function more apparent to users.

YouTube is concealing the “Skip” button in order to display additional ads.

If you don’t subscribe to YouTube Premium at the monthly cost of R$ 24.90, you will likely have to endure multiple ads while watching videos on the platform. Previously, the ‘Skip’ button provided relief by allowing users to bypass ads and watch videos more quickly. However, YouTube recently made a slight adjustment, making it somewhat more challenging to locate the skip button.

YouTube modifies the ‘Skip’ button on its platform.

Previously, a timer displayed at the bottom right corner showed the time left until the skip option became available. Now, a yellow line moves across the bottom of the video, adjusting its speed based on the ad’s length. If the ad is lengthy, the yellow line progresses rapidly until the skip button is shown. In cases where skipping is not possible, the yellow line represents the entire ad duration.

Some Reddit users have reported that YouTube is experimenting with black overlays to conceal the skip button, making it harder to ignore ads. This tactic is part of a larger series of tests the platform is conducting to determine the most effective way to increase ad viewing time.

YouTube has not issued an official statement regarding these adjustments. However, these slight modifications are intended to boost ad revenue, which totaled $31.51 billion in 2023, marking an almost 8% increase from the previous year. Even small changes can have a significant financial effect.
